FASTING GUIDELINES
We tend to overcomplicate things, but this fast is all about simplicity and returning to the basic essentials of cultivating a relationship with Jesus.
Though simple, it likely will not be easy, but will definitely be worth it.
TURN AWAY FROM SCREENS
Lay down your phone, and any device or screen that’s your go-to for comfort, escape or entertainment.
Try keeping text convos to a minimum, as our aim is to realign our senses, our soul’s affections and our mind’s attention upon God and off of every lesser pleasure.
BEHOLD GOD
Make space in your schedule to read the recommended Bible passages daily + think them over throughout the day.
We’ll be meeting for virtual prayer daily at 6pm PST/8pm CST/9pm EST/11pm Brasilia via Zoom (replays will be available on Youtube). Also spend your own dedicated time in prayer (even set a timer if you need to).
Whenever you feel the urge to pick up your phone or turn to a screen, turn to God instead. Be raw with him about how you’re feeling + what he’s revealing to you about himself.
Jot down insights you’re discovering or actions God is leading you to take. Feel free to share them in our GroupMe community chat!
EMBRACE STILLNESS + PRESENCE
Be where your feet are! Be intentional about slowing down your pace, embracing the quiet + being fully engaged with every moment of your life.
You may wrestle with boredom or may even feel initially anxious when intrusive thoughts/feelings arise, but that’s either the suppressed feelings of your heart trying to get your attention or the enemy trying to meddle with you. Whatever the case, cling to God’s truth instead and take every one of those thoughts/feelings to him in prayer.
**Side note: Keep your fasting secret. Don’t go tellin’ everybody you’re fasting. God says what we do in secret for him, He’ll reward when we don’t try to flex about our fasting in front of others (Matthew 6:16-18).
For day 3 as we conclude “The Turnaround” fast, we learn God often does his mightiest moves in the dark. But when we are connected with the heart of God, we remain in tune with his word, and can therefore stand tall and even embolden others–even in dark days.
