To be honest, there's A LOT that's been getting in the way of us believing the best about God and ourselves, and I think it's time we talked about it!

The Walls: What Hinders us from Trusting God

We often don’t trust God out of ignorance, because we don’t know we can/need to/don’t know how to. Not knowing God through first-hand experience along with a lack of knowledge, understanding, awareness + information about God can cause us to unknowingly walk in unbelief toward him. (1 Timothy 1:13-14 MSG)
When we don’t know God personally, we often assume he’s like every other person who’s betrayed us, lied to us, ghosted us, rejected + shamed us, etc.
It’s possible to know a lot about God, to do a lot for God, and yet to not know and be in personal relationship with God! (Matthew 7:21-23)

We also don’t trust God because we don’t want to, because of our pride, disobedience + stubbornness. (Mark 16:9-14)
Though we have the right to not want God + to live without him, the truth is, because he made us for him, we will never be satisfied + find fulfillment, peace, joy, love and purpose outside of him, because we were made to know + love him and be known + loved by him.

The Windows: Why We Can Trust God

Because God is holy, we are both safe + free to trust him, because he is set apart, sacred and free from all human infirmity, impurity and sin. (1 Samuel 2:2)
The bad news: Though God is holy, we are not, and will be held accountable for our sins before him. Yet our best efforts + good works aren’t enough to satisfy his purity + perfection. Our sins also separate us from him.
The good news: God knew we couldn’t become holy + right with him on our own, so he himself became our solution by sending Jesus to pay for our sins, reunite us with God, give us a new identity as children of God, and fill us with the Holy Spirit to empower us to be like him!
All other religions demand we earn/work our way to God. Jesus is the only God that comes down to humanity + completes the work for us!
As Jackie Hill Perry has said, “If God cannot sin, he cannot sin against you. And if he can’t sin against you, doesn’t that make him the most trustworthy being there is?”

How We Can Start Trusting God

Repent (turn away) from unbelief + trust in who God says he is and who he says you are (Get our free “He Said What He Said” affirmations for help!)
Study the Bible and embrace what God reveals to you about himself. (Romans 10:17)
Pray + ask God for more faith. (Hebrews 11:6, 1 John 5:14, Matthew 7:7-8)
Do what God says; activate your faith with obedience. (James 2:17)
